HOW THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN IMPACTS AMERICAN TAXPAYERS
As blue collar Americans, we know that if we don’t do the job, we don’t get paid. Which is why this GOP government shutdown boils our blood.
We sent our electeds to DC to do a job, but instead they’ve gone on vacation while the government shuts down.
Republicans promised if they controlled both Congress and the White House, they’d change things. This shutdown proves two things. One, the GOP is maintaining the status quo. And two, they have failed every American taxpayer who believed in them to make things better.
Now, it’s working class citizens who have to deal with the consequences.
How the Shutdown Impacts You
MASSIVE LAYOFFS
American unemployment will skyrocket. 750,000 federal employees could be furloughed each day of the shutdown.
VETERANS SERVICES
Fail to honor our vets. All benefits regional offices will be closed and veterans cemeteries will not be maintained.
SNAP & WIC
Kids will go hungry. Hunger relief programs will also be impacted, with the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) expected to rapidly run out of funds.
SOCIAL SECURITY
If you need to apply for social security for the first time, expect significant delays, especially if you are applying to access retirement, disability or survivor benefits for the first time.
AIR TRAVEL
Expect long lines at airports. TSA workers will be forced to work without pay. Historically, when this has happened, about 10% of them call out sick, resulting in major delays.
NATIONAL PARKS PARTIALLY CLOSE
Not a good time for vacation. With 64% of staff to be furloughed, all national parks facilities –like bathrooms and visitor centers - will be closed.
