Washington — In a notable discussion on the podcast "Raging Moderates," former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton suggested that if former President Donald Trump successfully negotiates an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine, she would consider nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize. Clinton's remarks come as Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin convene in Alaska to explore a potential resolution to the conflict.
Clinton stated, "Honestly, if he could bring about the end to this terrible war, where Putin is the aggressor... if he could end it without putting Ukraine in a position where it had to concede its territory to the aggressor, had to... validate Putin's vision of greater Russia, but instead could really stand up to Putin, something we haven't seen... this is the opportunity."
She emphasized the importance of a ceasefire and the necessity for Russia to withdraw its troops, asserting that it would demonstrate good faith in not threatening European security. Clinton expressed her desire for a situation where "if President Trump were the architect of that, I'd nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize," highlighting her goal of preventing any capitulation to Putin.
Clinton articulated her hopes for Trump to recognize the stakes involved, stressing that they were not dealing with a friend but with an adversary who has previously demonstrated aggressive behavior. "The best thing that could come out of this... is probably nothing... except a real strengthening of President Trump’s understanding that Putin is not someone you can make a deal with and expect it to last," she noted.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his administration continue to call for a complete withdrawal of Russian forces from their territory, reflecting the sentiments of many Ukrainians who wish for the return of all seized lands.
In response to Clinton's comments, Trump acknowledged her remarks during an interview, stating it was "very nice" of her, and quipped, "I may have to start liking her again." This exchange underscores the unusual positions both figures find themselves in amid the ongoing geopolitical tension.
