In a significant development, the Netherlands has completed its delivery of Dutch F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, with the final consignment leaving Dutch territory on Monday. This is a crucial step amid ongoing tensions and hostilities in the region. The aircraft will make an initial stop in Belgium for delivery preparations, as confirmed by the Dutch Ministry of Defence. This recent shipment brings the total count of F-16s supplied by the Netherlands to Ukraine to 24 units. Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans described the event as a pivotal milestone for Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of these fighter jets in light of the daily airstrikes from Russia, stating, "Due to the daily Russian airstrikes, the F-16s are vital for Ukraine." Furthermore, he noted that Ukraine's ability to defend itself aligns with the interests of its Western European allies. Minister Brekelmans also highlighted notable successes achieved by Ukrainian defense forces, such as intercepting Russian cruise missiles and drones, which he attributed to the enhanced capabilities provided by the F-16 aircraft. The Netherlands had begun delivering these fighter jets in the past year, marking a commitment to support Ukraine beyond just the aircraft. This ongoing assistance includes the provision of training for pilots, spare parts, ammunition, and fuel. Ukrainian pilots are currently receiving training at the European F-16 training center located in Romania, facilitating their preparation to operate the newly acquired jets. This effort to supply F-16s to Ukraine is part of a broader international coalition, with the Netherlands taking a leadership role in collaboration with Denmark and the United States.
