During the address, Zelenskyy celebrated Air Force personnel achievements and underscored the importance of advancing various components of the Air Force, including combat aircraft and missile defense units. He stated, “All components are gaining proper strength. This year alone, our Air Force has received Mirage fighter jets from France as well as additional F-16s. More are on the way.”
On August 3, Zelenskyy announced that pivotal development phases for Ukrainian combat aircraft had been approved, advancing plans for greater integration with allied forces.
He articulated the vision: “Our goal is the full and effective integration of Ukraine’s Air Force with NATO forces. This will undoubtedly provide more capabilities for our defence and at the same time make our country a stronger part of Europe’s collective security.”
Additionally, the presidential website disclosed that Zelenskyy convened a meeting focused on the strategy for Air Force development, collaborating with Air Force Command and Defence Ministry leaders.
The discussions included Ukraine's comprehensive 20-year military aircraft development strategy and the effectiveness of various aircraft types in countering Russian attacks, especially highlighting Western-made warplanes. Participants also established priorities for the integration of foreign military equipment and the training necessary for effective operation.
Background: This strategic focus follows the appointment of Lieutenant General Anatolii Kryvonozhko as the commander of Ukraine’s Air Force, a position that had remained unfilled for over a year, indicating a renewed drive toward military readiness and modernization.
